Oddies Attellu is a fine art engraving and printmaking studio. Here, Alex Corkish creates hand-made engravings that she prints on site. Her illustrations, inspired by Balagne's architectural and botanical heritage, are numbered and signed. From the Oddies Attellu workshop, located in the heart of the village of Urtaca and a member of the Route des Artisans de Balagne, the landscape opens out onto the sea and mountains. Nature and the villages of Balagne are inexhaustible sources of inspiration.
It is this built and natural heritage that Alex Corkish explores in her work as an artist. She depicts houses and plants as familiar silhouettes, inscribed in the collective memory. To achieve this, she uses age-old traditional engraving techniques.
Engraving involves creating indentations on the surface of a plate (usually zinc or copper), using hand tools such as steel points or chemical processes. When ink is applied to the plate, it remains in these hollows, where the motif has been drawn. This ink reserve is then transferred to paper using a high-powered manual press: this printing process is called etching.
This manual printing step creates slight variations with each print run, making each print unique. Prints are always limited editions, numbered and signed.
Sharing and exchange are among the values of Oddies Attellu, which offers introductory workshops and printmaking courses all year round, for all levels.
